Programming Using MAS (Maximal Aerobic Speed)
The ability to programme conditioning sessions using Maximal Aerobic Speed (MAS), allowing sessions to automatically adapt distance, time, or work-rate based on an athlete’s individual MAS test result.
This would enable coaches to prescribe aerobic and high-intensity running work as a percentage of MAS, with TeamBuildr automatically calculating the appropriate distances or target times for each athlete.
Why this matters
MAS-based programming is widely used in team sports to individualise conditioning while running the same session for a group. Currently, coaches must calculate distances manually or create multiple versions of the same session.
An MAS-driven feature would:
Improve individualisation within group sessions
Reduce coach admin time
Improve training accuracy and consistency
Align TeamBuildr with common sport-science practice in football, rugby, hockey, etc.
Example Use Cases
15s on / 15s off at 100% MAS
4 × 4 minutes at 90–95% MAS
Repeated shuttles at 110–120% MAS
Aerobic capacity blocks scaled automatically from MAS test results
Key Functionality Requested
Store MAS as an athlete attribute (m/s or km/h)
Programme running prescriptions as %MAS
Auto-calculate distance or target time per rep
Optional pitch-length/shuttle formatting (e.g. 18m, 22m, 40m)
